Face shape detector
A face shape detector names the outline in a front-facing photo: oval, round, square, heart, oblong, diamond, or triangle. What is my face shape is answered on this device. The photo is not uploaded, the check does not use a credit, and a close second shape is shown as between the two instead of a forced single name.
The photo stays in this browser. It is not uploaded and it does not use a credit.
What is my face shape — how detection works
What is my face shape, here, means which of seven outlines sits nearest three ratios taken from a face mesh. The browser loads MediaPipe Face Landmarker. That task finds a face and returns 478 landmarks: the face outline plus the irises. EasyFace does not post the picture to its own servers for this page. The landmarks stay in the tab, and the label is computed from them.
The face shape detector is not a scan of bone, and it is not a haircut by itself. Hair across the forehead, a full beard, and glasses can move points the mesh expected to see. A side view is rejected, because one cheek disappears and the widths collapse. One face is read. If two people are in the frame, crop to the person you mean before you trust the name.
The check runs after you confirm the photo is of an adult. It does not edit the pixels. Buttons under the result open the bangs page, the hair color page, and the hairstyle guide. Those are separate tools. This measurement does not spend the free look preview.
Face shape analysis: the measurements we use
Face shape analysis on this page is three comparisons. They are ratios in the photo, not millimeters and not a percent score.
Length:width is the distance from the upper forehead point on the mesh to the chin, divided by the width across the cheeks. That top point sits on the forehead the model can see, not at the hairline. A high hairline is not fully included, and bangs do not add length.
Cheek vs jaw is cheek width divided by jaw width. A number above 1 means the cheeks are wider than the jaw in the picture. Forehead vs jaw is forehead width divided by jaw width. The forehead points sit on the upper sides of the face oval, not on the ears.
The vertical axis follows the forehead down to the chin, so a tilted head does not by itself turn an oval into a round. A large turn to the side still fails. The numbers describe the photo in front of the camera. They are not calipers on the skull.
The 7 face shapes explained
These are the seven names salons already use. Each note is the pattern the ratios tend to show, plus cuts that already exist on this site. None of them is a rule. The face shape detector is naming an outline so you can compare pictures, not assigning a correct haircut.
Oval
Longer than it is wide, with the jaw a bit narrower than the cheeks and the forehead slightly wider than the jaw. A pixie, a lob, and curtain bangs are the comparisons people open. They are not required.
Round
Length and width are close, and the jaw stays near the cheek width, so the outline reads as soft rather than long. Layers, a side part, and a high ponytail break that circle with height or a diagonal.
Square
Length is only a little greater than width. The jaw is almost as wide as the cheeks, and the forehead is close to the jaw, so the corner reads stronger. Soft waves, a shag, and a crew cut are on the site if you want to see another edge.
Heart
The forehead is clearly wider than the jaw, and the cheeks are wide relative to the chin, so the face narrows downward. A lob, a side part, and bangs are the cuts the hairstyle guide also points at for a heart.
Oblong
Length is the long measurement, while the forehead, cheeks, and jaw stay closer to each other than they do on a diamond. Bangs, waves, and a French crop change how much of that length you notice. Oblong is the long row in the hairstyle guide.
Diamond
The cheeks are the widest part. The forehead and the jaw are both narrower, and they are closer to each other than they are on a heart. A pixie, curtain bangs, and layers are the cuts the guide lists for a diamond.
When the result says between two shapes
If the second prototype is close, the result says between the two names, with the nearer one first. A face can sit on a border. Forcing one label would look cleaner and be less honest. Face shape analysis that hides the runner-up is how a chart starts to feel like a verdict.
Take a second front-facing photo if the border surprises you. A different lens and different light move the mesh. Two photos that disagree are a reason to read both labels. They are not a reason to invent an eighth shape by averaging the words.
Know your face shape without an app
You can know your face shape with a mirror and a tape, or with a string you compare instead of reading numbers. Pull the hair off the forehead. Compare the widest part of the forehead, the widest part of the cheeks, and the jaw from one angle to the other. Then compare the length from the hairline to the chin with the cheek width.
If the length is clearly greater and the jaw is a bit narrower than the cheeks, the mirror is describing an oval. If the length is extreme and the three widths match, think oblong. If the jaw is the widest, think triangle. If the cheeks are widest and both the forehead and the jaw are narrower, think diamond. If the forehead is widest and the chin is narrow, think heart. If length and width are close and the jaw is wide and straight, think square. If they are close and the outline is soft, think round.
The face shape detector makes the same kind of comparison from landmarks instead of a tape. The tape can start at the hairline. The mesh starts lower, on the forehead it can see, so the two methods can disagree by a little without either one being a trick.
Hairstyles after you know your shape
After the label, open hairstyles for your face shape. That guide is a table of cuts for oval, round, square, heart, long, and diamond. It does not generate a new head. The bangs filter adds a straight fringe on the hair you already have. Curtain bangs are the split fringe, on their own page. The AI hair color changer dyes the length and does not cut it.
Use the face shape detector when you want a name. Then try the cut on the photo. A chart does not replace the picture of your own hair, your part, or your density. You can also skip the detector and open the bangs page directly. The measurement is not a gate.
Privacy: nothing is uploaded
Choosing a file reads it in this tab. The Face Landmarker library and its task model are fetched so the browser can find landmarks. Your photo is not part of that request, and it is not posted to an EasyFace job. There is no watermark, because this check does not store a preview. There is no credit, and the free look result on the rest of the site is not spent.
The optional camera, when the browser allows it, stays in the page too. A secure page is required for the camera. If the camera is blocked, or this page is not on HTTPS, choose a JPEG, PNG, or WebP instead. Either path is the same local measurement. Nothing in the result is sent back with the label.
A photo this face shape detector can read
Use a front view, with the eyes visible and the hair off the forehead if you can. JPEG, PNG, or WebP. A very small face in the frame is rejected so a distant group photo does not pretend to be a measurement. A large turn gets a plain message instead of a shape.
Heavy bangs, a hand on the cheek, and a thick beard can hide the outline. Sunglasses hide the eyes the model uses to settle the face. Take another photo rather than arguing with a bad frame. The check is for an adult. Do not point it at a child.
What this face shape detector does not claim
It does not diagnose health, attractiveness, or a correct haircut. It does not grade symmetry. It does not name an eighth shape, and it does not tell you what share of people match you. It does not see the back of the head. It does not replace a stylist who can feel density and a cowlick.
An older or younger adult preview is the AI age filter. That tool uploads a photo for an edit. It does not measure these ratios, and it does not offer a year or a child. To hide someone else before you post, face blur runs in the browser as well. This page still does not post your file.
FAQ
What is my face shape?
What is my face shape, on this page, is the nearest of oval, round, square, heart, oblong, diamond, or triangle, from three ratios on a front-facing photo. If the second name is close, the result says between the two.
How does a face shape detector work?
A face shape detector in this browser runs Face Landmarker, reads 478 landmarks, and compares length to width, cheek to jaw, and forehead to jaw. The photo is not uploaded.
Is face shape analysis accurate?
Face shape analysis here is a geometric comparison, not a medical measure. Borders are labeled as between two shapes. Hair, beard, glasses, and a turned head can move the result. A second straight-on photo is the check.
Does this face shape detector upload my photo?
No. The file is read in the tab. The model files load so landmarks can be found. The picture is not posted to EasyFace and is not stored as a preview.
Can I know my face shape without an app?
Yes. Compare forehead, cheeks, and jaw in a mirror, then compare length from the hairline to the chin with the cheek width. The tape includes the hairline. The mesh starts on the forehead it can see.
Why does it say between two shapes?
Because the two nearest outlines are close. A single name would hide that. Read both, and try the haircuts you actually want to see.
What if I have bangs or a beard?
Both can hide the outline. Pull hair off the forehead when you can, and do not expect a thick beard to show the jaw angle. If the label looks wrong, use a clearer frame.
Does face shape detection use a credit?
No. It does not use the free look preview either. Hairstyle, color, and age edits are separate tools with their own preview rules.
Will this work on a phone?
Yes, in a mobile browser. Choose a photo, or use the camera when the phone allows it. The measurement still stays on the device.
Is this a medical result?
No. It is an outline in a photo. It does not diagnose, score beauty, or tell you which cut you must get.
Which shapes can it name?
Oval, round, square, heart, oblong, diamond, and triangle. Oblong is the long face. Triangle means the jaw is the widest part.
What should I do after I know my face shape?
Open hairstyles for your face shape, or try bangs and hair color on your photo. The label is a starting point. The picture of the cut is the comparison that matters.
